Operation Terminology

Preaccelerator

The Preaccelerator has two parts. The first part consists two Preaccelerators called I minus and H minus. This is where the particle beam begins. Only one of these accelerators is used at a time. The other is kept in reserve. The Preacc consists of the source housed in an electrically charged dome. The source converts hydrogen gas to ionized hydrogen gas (H-). The second part is a transfer line called the 750 KeV line (referring to the transported beam's kinetic energy) that leads to LINAC.
