Fermi National Laboratory

Deputy Director of SLAC

From: SLAC Director

It is my great pleasure to announce that, effective immediately, Professor Gregory Loew is appointed Deputy Director of SLAC. This appointment is particularly appropriate, given that Greg has, with great skill, been filling this position unofficially for the past year.
Greg brings to the position of Deputy Director dedicated service in a variety of roles at Stanford followed by 40 years at SLAC which encompass almost all areas of the Laboratory. He was intimately involved in the construction and commissioning of the SLAC linac, and has contributed continuously to its evolution from a 16 GeV electron accelerator to its present 50 GeV capability to accelerate positrons and polarized electrons. Greg enjoys an international reputation as an outstanding accelerator scientist, in particular with regard to linear accelerators. On the management side, Greg has been the Technical Division Deputy Director for 21 years and the Technical Division Assistant Director for Technical Support for seven years. In addition he has served all three Directors in the role as Chargé d'Affaires, overseeing the visits of dignitaries and providing a critical point of contact with foreign governments.

In assuming the role of Deputy Director, Greg will step down as the Technical Division Deputy Director and Assistant Director for Technical Support.

Please join me in warmly congratulating Greg on his new position. Anything that you can do to make his difficult task easier will be much appreciated.
