November 1, 2001

Batavia, IL - U.S. House Speaker and Congressman of the 14th Congressional District J. Dennis Hastert announced today that the FY 2002 Energy and Water Appopriations Act was passed today by the U.S. House of Representatives, containing $307,006,000 to support facility operations at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. This represents an six percent increase over the FY 2001 funding level and is equal to the President's budget request.

Hastert states, "High-energy physics, and the work at Fermilab in particular, continues to enjoy strong support in Congress. As Speaker, I am committed in protecting the United States' leadership position in this field and to maintain Fermilab's position as the world's pre-eminent high-energy physics laboratory."

As a result of this commitment, scientists working at Fermilab will be at the forefront of addressing most important issues in particle physics with experiments that are either the best, or among the best in the world. Today, U.S. physicists at Fermilab have the world's finest tools for particle research, and this funding will allow them to utilize these tools in their full capacity.
