About John Peoples

John Peoples led the construction and commissioning of the Antiproton Source, which transitioned the Tevatron from a fixed target proton synchrotron to a proton-antiproton collider in 1987. Peoples then served as Lab Director from 1989 to 1999. During his term, a number of other improvements were made to the Tevatron that contributed to the discovery of the top quark in 1995. The construction and commissioning of the Main Injector was achieved during his term. In 1990, he initiated the experimental particle astrophysics program at Fermilab through participation in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. Peoples continues his active involvement in Fermilab as a member of its Particle Astrophysics Center.
