Mentee’s Promise
Clearly defined goals for the mentoring relationship will help the mentee satisfy professional development and career management needs. The mentee agrees to maintain integrity and professionalism at all times and to:
- maintain confidentiality at all times
- accept responsibility for their own goals, decisions and actions
- be as open-minded as possible and acknowledge reality
- interpret mentor advice and counsel as being given free of personal bias and prejudices
- be proactive, self-reliant and personally responsible for navigating the network
- acknowledge that the organizational culture promotes personal worth, equity and dignity
- move beyond race and gender to seek support and assistance
- withdraw from the relationship if it is ineffective
FermiLINK mentees are Fermilab employee volunteers who are looking guidance in navigating institutional culture, organizational structure and career management challenges and opportunities.
FermiLINK mentees are self-selected Fermilab employees who seek interactive opportunities for guidance in navigating institutional culture, organizational structure and career management challenges and opportunities.
Expectations of the Mentee:
A mentee should:
- Clearly define goals for the interaction
- Appreciate the professional commitment of the mentor
- Be flexible
- Accept responsibility for their own goals, decisions and actions

- Initiate mentor contacts
- Maintain mentor relationships
- Maintain confidentiality
- Respect mentor’s time
- Formulate the desired outcomes of the mentoring relationship
- Accept responsibility for own goals, decisions and actions
Characteristics of a mentee:
- Active listener
- Emotionally maturity
- Able to maintain confidentiality
- Genuine interest in personal and professional growth
- Openness and receptiveness to receiving feedback and coaching
- Demonstrated integrity and openness
