To Every Season : Earth and Sky

Lynn Krause

MY ART EDUCATION BEGAN AT THE CHICAGO ACADEMY OF FINE ART IN CHICAGO. I BEGAN MY CAREER AS A COMMERCIAL ARTIST IN A STUDIO IN CHICAGO. I LEFT THE COMMERCIAL WORLD IN 1966 AND BEGAN TO PAINT FULL TIME. I BEGAN TO EXHIBIT AT ART FESTIVALS IN 1967. I CONTINUE TO EXHIBIT AT ART FAIRS AND FESTIVALS. ABOUT FIVE YEARS AGO I CHANGED MY MEDIUM FROM PAINTING TO SOFT PASTELS. I WORK MAINLY IN SOFT PASTELS.

METHOD

I WORK ON SEVERAL TYPES OF PAPER, COLORED SANDED PAPER OR ARCHES BLACK COVER STOCK PAPER. I BEGIN THE PIECE EITHER BY UNDER PAINTING WITH DILUTED ACRYLIC PAINT OR USING HARD PASTELS TO ESTABLISH THE LIGHTS AND DARKS. I BEGIN TO ADD LAYERS OF COLORS AND OCCASIONALLY A GEL TO DARKEN AND ROUGH UP AN AREA. I COMPLETE THE WORK WITH A LIGHT COAT OF SPRAY TO FIX THE COLORS. PASTELS ARE PURE PIGMENT. IT HAS NO LIQUID BINDER THAT MAY CAUSE DISCOLORATION. PASTELS FROM THE 16TH CENTURY ARE AS BRIGHT AS THE DAY THEY WERE PAINTED.
