Dark Energy and Dark Matter are the imperceptible components that account for over ninety percent of the universe. These ethereal forces simultaneously work to expand and construct the universe as well as maintain an ordered balance with the visible, more solid objects in space.
It is within the construction of a painting that we encounter similarly invisible activity. What is made visible are layers of transparent color, geometric forms, dots of light and faint trajectories which coalesce on a rich surface that is flat yet vastly deep and photographically slick. As we explore the contrast between surface and illusion, lost layers of activity and texture are discovered. These partially concealed sub-layers reference attempts at organizing, a searching for perspective or can reveal points on a shifting, fluid constellation.
Despite attempts to depict a visible/invisible world in flux and even as the universe accelerates its expansion - hurtling us along with it - we ultimately find ourselves eclipsed by a moment of stillness. It is within that stillness that we can sense the gravity of hidden forces at work.
