The data files in this directory are MARS code generated courtesy Nikolai Mokhov, who built the Neutrino Factory Study 2 deck based on a 24 GeV proton beam impinging on an Hg jet target surrounded by a solenoid field of 20T. The solenoid field subsequently tapers to 1.25T at 18m downstream into the decay channel. The data is presented as an ICOOL input deck (for003.dat) with the following variables given: ievt ipnum itype ipflag TOF wt x y z px py pz pol1 pol2 pol3 ipnum, ifplag, pol1,pol2, and pol3 are ICOOL specific variable and are not implemented here. For itype we use the ICOOL convention which is muon=2, pion=3 and kaon=4. itype is either + or - to reflect the particle charge. TOF is the time of arrival at the z-plane in seconds with the launch of the proton beam at the beginning of the target defining t_zero. A word about weighting: Because of the large variation in the MARS weights it has been found to be convenient to convert to a flat weighted system, however, the wt variable carries the information of total particle species within the current data collection produced per incoming proton. Because some of the MARS weights are very high, it is possible in rare cases for a particular particle to appear more than once in the data set. When this is found necessary the particle will be added multiple times but with the TOF variable adjusted to reflect different incoming proton arrival times. For Study2 the time rms structure of the proton beam is assumed to be 3 ns. x,y, and z dimensions are in meters. px,py and pz dimensions are in GeV/c.
