mars area for Emittance exchange calculations. Dear Raja, Welcome to the MARS club! You can run the code on any of the UNIX or LINUX Fermilab AFS machines or on a Beams Division cartoon cluster. To get started, go to /afs/fnal/files/home/room1/mokhov/restricted/mars14 on AFS or to /home/mokhov/restricted/mars14 directory on cartoon and copy to your area GNUmakefile, MARS.INP, m1402.f, marsmain.f, GEOM.INP, and MARS.INP.exgeom files. To reproduce a sample problem of that in my directory just say make (or gmake on UNIX AFS) time ./rmars-bnab-fems-linux & (last suffix is a OS system you are on). In several seconds you will get MARS.OUT and MTUPLE, files which must coincide with mine. You can also try an "extended geometry" option replacing MARS.INP with MARS.INP.exgeom, a MTUPLE.EXG file is generated then additionaly, ALTHOUGH THIS OPTION IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR NEXT TWO MONTH BECAUSE IT IS UNDER COMPLETE RE-BUILDING! One can generate numerous histograms, stored in mars.hbook, for surface and volume detectors, as described in MARS memos and comments. You can change CTRL 0 in MARS.INP to CTRL 1 to activate MARS GUI for geometry, track visualization and for displaying histograms from mars.hbook. One can generate a TRACK.PLOT file by placing TAPE 18 into the input sequence and running it for about 5 events. Everything is quite self-explainatory. Be aware that MARS.OUT, mars.hbook and all MTUPLE files are re-written at each run, therefore you should rename those with the good statistics to something like MARS.OUT.1 and mars-1.hbook if you need them. Then, in a separate directory, you can create your MARS.INP and m1402.f for your particular problem. As a guide, use the MARS manual from the web page and MARS memos. The manual is not-up-to-date, a new one will be ready soon. Visit "Secure MARS page" at http://www-ap.fnal.gov/MARS/ for memos and a strongly recommended MCNP option for precise low-energy neutron physics (available currently on cartoon and fnpc51). AN UPDATED MARS DECK TO CALCULATE PARTICLE YIELDS IN THE FEASIBILITY-2 CONFIGURATION IS ATTACHED TO THIS MESSAGE. Good luck! Nikolai Mokhov, Fermilab, MS 220, BD/Physics P.O.
