MuCool meeting minutes FRIDAY, 29th Oct at 1:30 PM CDT in the 10th floor conference room. Scribe: Dave Neuffer Topics: 1. LBNL Update - The workshop on cooling simulation and theory is proceeding at LBNL. Some discrepancies between cooling codes have been resolved, With careful parametrization ICOOL simulations seem accurate. Progress toward complete scenario simulation was reported. the workshop will be continued Nov. 8-12 at Fermilab. 2. Ed Black reported LH2 window calculations and presented progress on mechanical design. 3. Steve Geer initiated discussion on MUCOOL Long-Term plans Design, construction of components, testing and insertion into a beam line might take ~4 years. We might benefit from a faster start with a "mini-cooling" experiment ... main goal would be to learn how to make the measurements and get the beam understood etc. Need to understand whether this would help us or distract us. We need also to understand the ultimate cooling experiment needed before some lab somewhere will be able to buy into, and get approval for, a nu-factory cooling channel. For example, do we ultimately need to build a test cooling channel (10% -> 10m long ?) and operate it as a channel to learn about whether we can debug and tune it (instrumentation, feedback ??). We want a good discussion at the MUCool collaboration meeting.
