Minutes - Mucool meeting - November 20, 1998. Paul LeBrun presented an update on cooling simulations with the new (1.5m cells) Alt. Sol. Lattice. The cooling performance is significantly better than the 2m cells. A 26m section cools 6-D by ~2.5x; compared to ~1.75 x for the 2m cells with ~ same losses. Al Moretti discussed the status of Lab G and showed drawings of the Lab G area which indicated the need for removal of some old magnets and other modifications. A 805 MHz test stand would be assembled. Al Moretti also presented an open iris cavity design (no Be windows), with iris diameters varying from cavity to cavity, following the beam radius. N. Holtkamp presented a 805 MHz cavity design with a traveling wave configuration; The design consists of open iris cylindrical cavities with coupling slots between cavities. It is suitable for SLED pulse compression operation. E. Black presented a first mechanical design for the 1.5 m cells. The absorbers + magnets and rf form into a compact unit, with improved access to rf cells and cooling. Don Summers reported on the status of machining of copper cavities for the low-power rf test stand. Machining of 2 cavities is in progress.
