Minutes of Fermilab MuCool Meeting 9/10/99 Scribe: Alan Bross 1. Lucien Cremaldi updated the group on simulations for the cerekov ID system for MuCool. The simulation was done for 180 MeV/c beam momentum and included multiple scattering, beam divergence, and PMT QE. The beam momentum was fixed and used: Pi 5%, Mu 80%, and e 15%. Plots showed good separation between pi, mu, and e. However for electrons from muons that decay within the channel, these electrons had a tail in the pe distribution that could fake muons. This would be a very small effect for a 1000 m decay channel. A cosmic-ray test using a water radiator and a 5" RCA PMT gave a yield of 12 pe, half of what was expected. This will be investigated. 2. Ed Black gave an overview of work on the Title I Engineering Report for the alternating solenoid cooling channel, the short 15T cooling lattice. The document will describe in detail what is required for the MuCool system and will include: vacuum, RF, cryostats, coils (15 T and bucking), the LeH absorber system, safety considerations, and quality assurance. The report will be made into a MuCool note and posted for collaboration review. 3. Al Moretti discussed the status of Lab G. Recently an electrical safety walk-through was performed. AC power has been run to the racks for the modulator and the modulator cabinet is approximately 95% complete. There will be 3 control racks in the area and two are currently in position. The klystron pulse transfer is in Lab G and will be installed soon. A power-up test is expected in about 1 month. There are still LCW water concerns due to the fact that the pumps are located in Lab D. This issue still needs to be resolved.
