Friday (3/3/2000) Mucool meeting minutes: Scribe: Vincent Wu 1. Ed Black gave an engineering update on the case 2 FOFO cooling channel lattice. The example he presented is a pi / 2 mode Be window cavity consisting of 2 cavities with 2 cells in each cavity. An absorber is located between cavities. The cavity has a simple pillbox structure. Al Moretti raised the question that simple pillbox geometry is unrealistic because of the higher RF power requirement (which is due to lower shunt impedance). In other word, the cavity geometry is not yet optimized for high shunt impedance. Finally, Ed gave a cost estimate and the number of man hour for a 150 m long channel. The cost of RF and solenoid coils are not included in the estimate. 2. Dan presented some Icool simulation for a ~ 165 m long FOFO channel. Its periodic cell is 1.1m long with a 3.4 T on axis magnetic field, and 201 MHz cavity with a gradient of 15 MV/m. It operates with a 30 degree synchronous phase. The transverse emittance shows an exponential fall off from about 13 to 2 pi mmr. The number of muons along the channel were also presented. The curve levels off after about 70 m into the channel. This is work in progress. 3. Jocelyn gave an update on her work on the "flip" simulation geometry that has no opposing current. The simulation is done using Dpgeant. The parameters of the channel are 50 sections X 2.47 m / section ~32 cm LH per section, 500 u Al window 6 X 32 cm RF cavity, f = 200 MHz, 125 u Be window 3 X 50 cm coils, 1 X 30 cm coil, R = 70 - 80 cm uniform B field, 5 T. 4. Panagiotis gave an update on what other people (i.e. Paul, ) are working. 5. Krish gave an update on his work on induction linac in Dpgeant. 6. Al Moretti presented an update on what is going on in lab G. Superconducting magnet from LBL will arrive sometime next week.
