From FredMills@aol.com Subject: Mucool Minutes for October 2, 1998 Steve Geer called the meeting to order and called for News. To whit: 1. Ed Black is now hired as a visiting engineer to implement a study of the Cooling Section. 2. Norbert Holtkamp has joined Fermilab from Desy. He will work on the Muon Collider and Main Injector commissioning. 3. Rajendran Raja reported that a decision will be made at the LBL collaboration meeting about the forms of publication that will be acceptable as references in publications by the collaboration. (Until now, there has been no internal report system.) Steve Geer reported the impending startup of a system similar to a CDF system based on PS files posted on the web. Tom Kobilarchik discussed the transport of the proton beam through enclosures B, C, F1, F2, &F3 to Meson Lab. Most dipoles, quadrupoles, Lambertsons, etc., exist but have not yet been definitively assigned to this beam. The $1.5M kicker must be developed and built. The present design will transport 78pi vertically and 40pi horizontally with ~ 3% scraping Ed Black described the beginning of the integration of the LH2 absorber, the RF cavities, the solenoids, etc. in the cooling region. The RF is to be mounted on rails so it can be removed. Undoing all the connections poses some challenges. Kevin Lee described progress in running Geant at UCLA. He is putting particles through the region, but is not yet able to step through in tracking. So far the output files are not ready. There was some discussion of having Kevin run Geant on the Fermilab computers to bypass these startup problems. Panagiotis Spentzouris said he is beginning to simulate the correlator. He is now concentrating on details of the Lithium Lens. Steve Geer discussed the program for the Cooling Experimental and theory groups at the Collaboration Meeting at LBL. A 5 hr. joint meeting is planned for Saturday. (Steve's plans have been distributed by e-mail.)
