Description of E791 Reconstruction Farm at University of Mississippi E791
carried out its reconstruction in four locations: CBPF in Brazil, Fermilab,
Kansas State University, and University of Mississippi. Raw data on the
original 8mm tape was shipped to these sites and output tapes were returned to
Fermilab for subsequent stripping steps.

Description of production Monte Carlo work for D0 at CBPF
- Schematic of E831/FOCUS Event Skimming System This system was implemented at
University of Colorado and Vanderbilt University. The 8 mm output tapes from
the primary event reconstruction at FNAL were sent to these two sites and the
important physics events were skimmed off, reformatted, and put on 8 mm output
tapes. These were returned to Fermilab where copies were made and the
originals were vaulted. A signifcant feature was that both universities are
connected to FNAL via VBNS. A copy of the skimmed data was written from
local disks over the network to Fermilab and stored in the Fermilab
Mass Storage System - FMSS. FMSS is an IBM 3494 system managed by HPSS.
The data showed up on FMSS long before they were available from tape. This
use of the network and FMSS permitted very fast, continuous, and immediate
access to physics datasets. It allowed early extraction of signals and
superb monitoring of the skim production by the Physics Groups. If
the current 'typical' available network throughput could be guaranteed,
it would in principle be possible to carry out this whole processing
step using the network for all IO (that is, without shipping any tapes
around).
