Michael Jones: Nuclear Testing

Thursday, February 29, 1996.

Continued nuclear testing by France and China has caused international protests and may jeopardize negotiations on a Comprehensive Test Ban (CTB) treaty banning all nuclear tests, which the nuclear weapons states are committed to complete "no later than 1996." The talk will contain a brief history of nuclear testing since 1946, a discussion of why China and France are testing, a brief overview of the environmental impacts of French tests at Moruroa, a summary of current US policies related to nuclear testing, and a review of the current status of the CTB negotiations.
