5th Annual Fermilab GSA Triathlon Saturday, August 5, 2006 Results & PicturesI would like to first thank all the competitors, volunteers and spectators for coming out to the 5th Annual Fermilab Triathlon. This year we had a record setting number of athletes competing. There were 34 individuals racing and 8 teams out on the course making history. Thank you for coming out and having fun and being patient with the organizers who at the beginning didn't quite know how to handle those numbers. In the end with the help of all the volunteers that came out early on a Saturday morning, a big thanks to them, we were able to get everyone done and through the events in 3 hours and 45 minutes, hence we were done before noon. It could not have gone better in my opinion. Now onto what everyone is waiting for, results and pictures. If you notice a discrepency with yor times please let me know (lwelty@fnal.gov) and we will double check the numbers. Thanks! Please note that for the final times we did your (Run Finish Time)-(Swim In Time). There could be some discrepancies in the seconds of some of the competitors if you add up each of the segments because of stop watch rounding errors on each of those parts. It's harder to add up 5 segments and get the exact same number as taking a final number minus an initial number. Hopefully it's relatively close though and the most exact finish time would be the ending time - starting time. The segments are just so you know roughly how you did (should be very close). Results

Thank you for your understanding. The race is FREE and is open to anyone who wants to participate, including all friends and family of Fermilab ID holders! Registration is open to both individual participants and teams. So if you are only interested in one or two of the legs grab your friends to help out with the other legs. T-Shirts available! Get yours now : http://cafepress.com/fermitri VolunteeringEven if you aren't feeling like swimming, biking, and running your little heart out on Saturday, you can still participate in the triathlon! We need approximately 12 volunteers to help with timing and traffic control along the race routes. If you're interested in volunteering, email the GSA officers. It's also a good opportunity to cheer on the racers! The racers love the support so come on out and help them get through the event.Race DetailsWhat you should bring.
BIKE: The transition area will be right outside the pool in front of the Kuhn barn. The bike course will be on roads inside Fermilab. Roads will still be open to traffic so participants will need to obey the rules of the road and yield to automobile and pedestrian traffic. Fermilab security and other volunteers will be helping with traffic control at key intersections on the race course. The course will also be marked and maps will be available at the race. The bike course will be as follows:
RUN: The bicycle portion of the race ends back at Kuhn barn where the bicycle will be given up for a pair of sneakers. The run is on both paved roads and a small path that circles the A.E. Sea. The path is un-even so runners should be prepared for this "off-road" run. The run course will be as follows:
Festivities at the BarnEven if you aren't feeling like racing Saturday morning, come join in the fun and cheer on those who are racing! The audience will get to see the racers several times during the event so it will be a great chance to cheer and offer encouragement. We'll also have bagels, fruit, and other snacks for racers and spectators alike at the barn. There will also be plenty of water and Gatorade to go around. Prizes will be awarded to the first male and first female participants. In case of rain/thunderstormThe lifeguard will determine if the weather is too severe to open the pool. If that is the case, the race will be postponed until the weather clears. If the lifeguard will not be available at that time, or the delay lasts longer than a few hours, the race may have to be cancelled.
If you have any questions or comments, please don't hesitate
to mail the GSA officers.
