Going to see movies can be a fun way to spend an evening or afternoon. First-run cinemas offer new Hollywood releases, and prices are around $9 for evening shows (usually cheaper for students, must show student ID), $7 for matinee (afternoon) shows. Second run shows (after a movie has been out for a while, it will generally be moved to a lower-priced cinema) can be seen for about $5. As always, call the cinema for movies, showtimes, and exact prices.

• AMC Cantera 30 Showtimes: (847) 765-7AMC (7262), Guest Services: (630) 836-8265. I-88 and Winfield Rd, Warrenville. This is the biggest theater around (also the most expensive). It has 30 theaters inside.

• Goodrich Randall 16 (630) 761-0501. 550 N Randall Rd, Batavia (go to the west end of Wilson Rd and turn right - it's close by on the right - past Menards). A fairly wide selection of current films.

• Hi-Lite 30 Drive-In Phone: (630) 236-2032. Movie Hotline: (630) 898-5888. Rt 30 at Montgomery Rd., Aurora. Oldest drive-in theater still operating in IL, has parking for 800-1000 cars. Open from April to October (7 days a week in summer, only weekends in spring and fall).

• Classic Cinemas Ogden 6 (630) 357-5050. Ogden Mall, 1227 E Ogden Ave, Naperville. Cheap second-run theater (tickets for $3), slightly run-down.

• Nova 8 Cinemas (630)428-7671. 352 Route 59, Naperville (right off the intersection of Rt 59 and Aurora Ave). 8 screens, decent selection of current films.

• Classic Cinemas Charlestowne 18 (630)587-3300. 3740 East Main Street, St. Charles. A fairly wide selection of current films.

• Cascade Drive-in (630) 231-3150. 28 West 741 North Avenue, West Chicago. Largest drive-in theater in IL with parking for 1200 cars! Open from March to October, 7 nights a week.

• Marcus Elgin Fox Theatre (630) 622-1000. 111 S Randall Rd, Elgin. Southeast corner of Rte 20. 10-plex showing current films.
