Fermilab is located in Batavia, IL, about 35 miles (or 50 km) west of Chicago. The main entrance is on Farnsworth Ave (Kirk Road) and Pine Street, just 3 miles north of the I-88/Farnswoth Ave exit. The location of Fermilab relative to the surrounding highways is shown in Figure 1.1.
Currently, three gated entrances provide access to Fermilab: the main entrance on Pine St, the Batavia Rd entrance on the east side of the lab, and the service entrance on Wilson Rd. The Wilson Rd entrance is only open during weekdays, not on nights or weekends.
There are several primary areas and places of interest on the site, all of which can be seen on a scale model of Fermilab located on the 15th floor of the Wilson Hall building. The largest central locations on Fermilab are described in more detail below.
