Guide to Life at Fermilab Family Page Day Care
For a list of private daycare and nursery schools, you should probably consult the yellow pages. In Appendix D you will find a list of preschools and kindergarten close to Fermilab. Fermilab also has a co-operative playgroup for children from 18 months old to 5 years old. The group meets Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in the basement below Dorm 3 in the Village. Playgroup hours are from 10:30 AM until 12:30 PM. As a condition of participation in playgroup, the parents must contribute one morning a week with the program. During playgroup, children are read stories, listen to music, and participate in crafts. The space in Playgroup is limited, so it is best to reserve a place. Call Trina Castilla for details (X4752). Children's Summer Day Camp
The program is held in the lower level of Kuhn Barn in the Village, Mondays through Fridays 8:30 AM to 5 PM. Unprogrammed supervision is available starting at 7:30 AM. Parents must pick up their children by 5:30 PM (after which a $10 late fee will be charged per child). Maximum attendence is 30 per session. Admission will be made by lottery drawing on the last weekday of March. Call X2548 to apply, or check FermiNews in March for information. Registration is available for full days. Fees for each session are $225 per child per session. Swim lessons will be coordinated with the summer pool program at an additional fee of $15 per day. A $100 deposit per session per child must accompany registration. Schools
Please note that the school will need proof of residence on Fermilab site, so when you register, be sure to take along a letter from housing declaring that you are living on-site. In addition, take any records from previous schools (e.g. immunizations) and a birth certificate or a passport for the child. Children of families living in the small towns around Fermilab must attend the school in whose district they live. In Appendix D you will find a list of elementary, middle and high schools closer than 10 miles to Fermilab. Colleges and Universities
