from Acqua alle Funi
This online edition came as an idea out of the first GSA meeting in September
of 1998. The proposal "let us make an online
sort of magazine" got an enthusiastic response from the GSA representatives.
Around December '98 Durga reminded me that we had actually done nothing on this idea
and so I sat down and put together slowly what is now Acqua alle
Funi. It is clear that for Acqua alle Funi to stay alive we need the response
of the FNAL community and we expect that particularly the
young grad students and post docs will take up on this effort.
The way Acqua alle Funi is structured it can be updated often
to include letters and opinions and other material as they come in. And every quarter
the hope is that there will be a new issue of Acqua alle Funi.
Many thanks go to Andrew Green and Joe Lykken
for being the first ones to dare fill in the profile section. To Mark Kruse
for his original and ingenious cryptic crossword puzzle and for checking
grammar and spelling mistakes.
Of course to the GSA board : Fernanda Garcia, Andrew Green and Durga Rajaram.
To Adrienne Kolb for providing the "Wilson Metal Sculpture Erected"
article form the "Village Crier" archives.
To Judy Jackson and Sharon Butler. To the
Fermilab Users Executive Committee.
Last and by no means least many thanks to Chris
Quigg for his eternally youthfull energy and enthusiasm and for his support towards the project
and also for contibuting his book reviews and the very "Welcome to Acqua alle Funi "
note. The GSA members hope that you will enjoy Acqua alle Funi
and that you will keep it alive.
