Title:
"The Cryogenic Dark Matter Search"
Abstract:
The Cryogenic Dark Matter Search (CDMS) is a leader in the
field of directly detecting the dark matter wind as terrestrial
laboratories pass through the Milky Way's halo. We briefly describe the
manifold evidence for non-baryonic cold dark matter which could naturally come
in the form of Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs). The CDMS
search for WIMPs involves using advanced solid state detectors which
efficiently separate all known background sources from the expected dark
matter signal on an event by event basis. We present limits on the
WIMP-nucleon scattering cross-section which show the power of this
background free detection technique.
