Title:
"Preliminary Charged Particle Production Results from the MIPP Experiment"
Abstract:
The Main Injector Particle Production Experiment (E907) at Fermilab finished its first data run in February 2006. Data were collected using tagged pion, kaon, proton and anti-proton beams from 5 to 85 GeV/c and protons at 120 GeV/c on many targets: liquid hydrogen, beryllium, carbon, copper, bismuth, aluminum, uranium and the NUMI thick target. MIPP data can be used to determine particle production cross sections to study a general scaling law of inclusive cross sections and topics in nuclear physics. We present detector performance for tracking and particle identification as well as first results for the pion to kaon production ratio from 20 to 90 GeV/c in proton-carbon interactions using the 120 GeV/c beam. We also present preliminary results on pion and proton production at low momenta up to 1.0 GeV/c using 120 GeV/c protons on bismuth and carbon targets.
