New Perspectives 2005

June 9-11, 2005
at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory.
Organized by the Graduate Student Association and Young Particle Physicists chapter of Fermilab

Presentations

Student talks should be 12 minutes + 3 minutes for questions. Students should be prepared to give a short background description of their experiment. If more than one student is presenting from one experiment, we will try to group those talks together. Then one student may give a background description of the experiment before the talks begin.

Talks should be emailed to gsa_officers@fnal.gov by 10PM THURSDAY, JUNE 9th, so that we can put all the talks on one laptop.

Poster instructions

Instructions on making and printing posters at Fermilab

Preparation of the Posters

Posters will be mounted on poster boards measureing 42" x 48".

The general suggestions for preparation of the posters are provided below:

    1. Legibility: The poster should be readable from a distance of at least 6'. Suggested sizes include: minimum graph size 10", section heading letters 3/4", and text and figure lettering no less than 3/8".

    2. Heading: Fermilab will no longer provide a general heading label for each display area. Each poster should include at the top a title, the name of the presenter, and the university of the presenter.

    3. Titles: All Figures and tables should be titled. The sizes, format, and number of the posters (beyond the heading) are left up to the discretion of the presenter.

    4. Dimensions: The size of the poster is left to the discretion of the presenter. However, when mounting, remember don't plan to mount anything lower than table height (30" above the floor).

Summary

Please note the following points when designing your poster:
- DO use large, easy-to-read letters.
- DO NOT paste-up typed pages from a paper.
- DO NOT clutter the poster with details.
- DO include clear figures and tables.
- Posters should be understandable - even in the absence of the author(s).

Prizes will be awarded for the top 3 posters, in memory of George Michail, with first prize at $250, second at $150, and third at $100. Poster judges are listed here. One or more of the judges will award the prizes at 11:45 AM on Friday, June 10th, in 1 West. Any changes to this time will be denoted in the schedule.
