Breese Quinn Statement: The Users Organization constitution states the UEC should, particularly through geographical distribution, represent "the interest of the entire high energy physics community." Having worked for a large university, Fermilab, and now a small university, I feel I can bring a unique perspective to the UEC, encompassing a broad range of the community’s interests. I believe that to ensure Fermilab's long-term future as a leading institution in HEP, one major mid-term challenge must be met: garnering solid support for full exploitation of the Run II physics program. Early termination of the run or rapid attrition within collaborations will jeopardize Fermilab's ability to remain front and center with exciting physics results through the end of this decade. Any long-term future the lab envisions would certainly be threatened by diminished visibility in the next few years. There are several ways in which the UEC can help meet that challenge, and I believe that I can make particularly strong contributions to two UEC efforts promoting our interests: 1) As a Lederman Fellow, I have been recognized for communicating the excitement of our field to everyone from Sunday School kids to Senators, and I would like to bring that experience to the UEC Outreach committee. 2) Through the DC Trip committee, I hope to strengthen relationships I have developed with Congressional offices throughout the South, a region wielding significant influence, while traditionally underrepresented in science and technology.
