K. Wyatt Merritt Statement: Collaboration size, lead time to mount an experiment, complexity of the hardware and software required to get the physics out - they've all grown steadily over the years I've spent in this field, but resources are shrinking and have been for about a decade. Particle physics and particle astrophysics are not, scientifically speaking, backwaters - on the contrary, the excitement potential and the learning potential are still great. I think a major responsibility of the UEC is to help get the message out regarding those potentials, and what they mean to our society. All the Fermilab communities need to push for an exciting and well supported future for the Lab, and I want to be part of that push. I'd like to be elected to the UEC, since it is one of the best platforms from which to work for the Lab's future.
