Yurii Maravin Statement: As funding for physical sciences decreases, I am very concerned with the future of HEP research at Fermilab. I consider the laboratory to be the center of the HEP in the US. I think it is very important for the success of the field in this country is to keep Fermilab being one of the world centers for the high energy physics research. One of the necessary ingredients to achieve such a goal is to increase outreach, visibility, and stress the importance of the current HEP program at Fermilab in Washington and among the general public. The other ingredient to the success of the HEP in the US is a strong international collaborative effort. Unfortunately, I consider the current visa situation to be very unsatisfactory. Though situation with issuing visa is improving, as a legal alien, I still face a potential delay for a few months if I am to travel abroad. Moreover, in most cases, spouses of scientists cannot legally work; thus, it works against foreign families to come to work in the US. I have a strong feeling that the situation needs to be addressed if Fermilab is to host future accelerators, such as ILC. If elected, I will do as much as I can to increase visibility and stress the importance of the HEP research at Fermilab among the general public and in Washington. I will also join the effort to improve the visa situation (in a form of working for obtaining a longer life-time scientist visa, that would also let family members to work in the US).
