Description: Fermilab and the Universities
Research Association will make an award for outstanding work conducted by
a postdoctoral researcher at Fermilab or in collaboration with Fermilab
scientists. Alvin Tollestrup will present the award during the 2003
annual Users' Meeting.
Eligibility: All Ph.D. researchers
in non-permanent positions at Fermilab or URA member institutions who are
within six years of the receipt of their Ph.D. (as of the nomination deadline)
are eligible. The work for which the award is made must be performed
in conjunction with a Fermilab experiment or accelerator project, or under
the auspices of the Fermilab Theory Group.
Nominations: The nomination
will consist of a CV (including a short narrative of the research) and list
of publications and invited talks, a short paper (5 or fewer pages) describing
the research, and two letters of support from scientists familiar with the
work. The research may be conducted in collaboration with others,
or as part of a larger project, but the paper should be in the form of a
research note or paper (as opposed to a first-person narrative) and should
describe the nominee's own contributions to the work and the results.
The papers, and the supporting letters, must be received at the address
below by 20 April, 2003. All material must be
in printed form - no email submissions will be considered.
Selection: A committee appointed
by the Fermilab Director, Michael Witherell, will make the selection of
the most outstanding work. The winner will be notified by 20 May 2003,
and will be invited to present the work in a talk at the annual Fermilab
Users' Meeting. The recipient of the award will receive a certificate of
recognition and a check for $3000.
