This area of clumped pine trees and scrub is to be found on the northwest side
of Lake Law, just west of the
Red Barn. In general this area and the other similar
pine clusters on site are not particularly productive. However, in winter they
do provide good roosting areas for owls. In particular the village pines are
probably the most reliable place on site to find
Long-eared
Owls. Other interesting wintering species such as
Cooper's
Hawks and
Red-breasted
Nuthatches are also possible. In 2001, a similar group of pines to the
north of the village produced a
Yellow
Grosbeak on a Christmas Bird Count.
