Located south of Batavia Road on the east side of the site, this is probably the best all year location on site for birding. It is also the area most accessible to the general public. The area consists of three man-made lakes and scrublands between them. It lies just south of the Village which is a residential area for visiting scientists located along Batavia Road on the east side of the site. Fermilab has declared this a "Bird Watching Area" and, during times of low National Security Alert, is open to the public.
The main access point for this area is the The Red Barn parking lot. A trail starts here and runs around the east side of Lake Law which is visible to the south of the parking lot. This trail will take you through some of the best birding habitat on site. There is also a trail that starts at a turn-out south of Batavia rd just west of the main entrance. This trail runs east of A.E.Sea and connects to the other trails at the south end of the lake.
