Site map of this area.
The Tevatron is the largest accelerator at Fermilab and is housed in an
underground tunnel which forms a circle 4 miles in circumference. An earth
berm, a string of service buildings a road and a ring of ponds containing
cooling water are the suface indicators of the tunnel's location. The area
inside this circle has been set aside for a prairie reconstruction project, but
also contains some nice wetlands and small woodlots. Naturally, this ensemble
provides some excellent habitat for birds. Note, however, that
members of the public require permisssion to access this area. The
following links give more detail about what can be seen where in this area.
