New!
A "Sounds Like" match in the Fermilab Online Phone Book!

You can now check the "SoundsLike" box and enter a string that "sounds like" either the first, middle, or last name of the person you're looking for. You will see a list of all persons whose last, first, or middle name "sounds like" the string you entered.

The soundex algorithm in use has been designed to match the output of the State of Illinois Department of Motor Vehicles output; note that this means you must correctly match the first letter of the name.

The web interface is available at http://www-tele.fnal.gov/telephone/ (same URL as previously).

Also available for UNIX product distribution: telephone v5_1 which includes a new "-match=soundslike" option in order to take advantage of the SoundsLike logic in the commandline interface to the telephone directory. Note, it requires the ups product shells v2_2. Any previous commandline versions (those on VMS machines, and those distributed with prior versions of futil for UNIX platforms) will be deprecated in support.
