Install_Netscape Product Documentation

Because Fermilab does not distribute Netscape Communicator, install_netscape was assembled to assist with the process of downloading and installing this package as a UPS product.

Install_netscape is available via upd.

Usage, after installation, the following:

	Setup install_netscape
	cd $INSTALL_NETSCAPE_DIR
	./netscape_install directory_in_which_to_install
	#(install_netscape also works)

If the directory_in_which_to_install value is not provided, the default is to install (and declare) netscape in the current working directory ($INSTALL_NETSCAPE_DIR).

Attributes of install_netscape

• Quit is an appropriate response for any prompt. The result is an immediate exit from the process.
• Displays a list of the versions of Netscape Communicator available at netscape.com and prompts for choice.
• Checks the flavors of Netscape Communicator available for the chosen version at netscape.com and, if any might be acceptable, displays a list of all flavors to assist in choosing.
• If no flavors of Netscape Communicator are found to be acceptable for the chosen version, a message is displayed and the list of versions is again displayed so that a new choice can be made.
• Allows Netscape Communicator to be installed in any directory (assuming write access).
• Contains all the necesssary ups specific files (and copies them as needed)
• Redistributes the files as provided by the netscape distribution into familiar ups directories (where possible).
• Declares the netscape product to ups with a version derived from the version at netscape.com and chain value "test".
