Fermilab Directorate
The experimental research uses the complex of accelerators at Fermilab where there is an intense program of proton-antiproton collider work at the very highest energies, and neutrino and quark flavor programs. Experiments may also be conducted with accelerators elsewhere; currently an experiment is in preparation at the Large Hadron Collider being constructed at the CERN Laboratory in Geneva, Switzerland. Some of our particle physics research also involves examining cosmic radiation; there are examples in which we use optical telescopes, charged particle detection, x-ray detection, and one in which we search for weakly interacting massive particle radiation postulated in some theories. The experimental physics is complemented by two theoretical physics groups; one which studies particle physics; another, which studies cosmology. All the components of the research program are naturally intertwined.
My responsibilties include Directorate oversight for two of the four technical divisions, the Computing and Particle Physics Divisions. Another important responsibility is oversight of the Program Planning function, and work with the Physics Advisory Committee that advises the Director on matters concerning the particle physics research program."
