As Associate Laboratory Director for Particle Physics, I report to the Director and have line responsibility for the management of all aspects of the Particle Physics Sector at Fermilab. The Particle Physics Sector consists of the Particle Physics Division, the Fermilab Center for Particle Astrophysics, the CMS Center, the Program Planning Office and several research projects.
I am responsible for assuring that we maintain excellence in the particle physics research program in all its aspects, which includes planning, allocating resources and executing the program. This program must meet performance measures contained in the contract with the Department of Energy including science productivity, financial management, ES&H, quality assurance, project management and others. As a member of the senior management team I work closely with the Director, Deputy Director, and other Associate Directors to contribute to the management of all aspects of the laboratory, including overall strategic planning under the direction of the Deputy Director. Prior to becoming an associate director in 2009, I was acting head of the Particle Physics Division. Before that I was the project manager for the NuMI and KTeV experiments. I am a member of the MINOS experiment and have been a member of several kaon experiments since starting at the laboratory as a graduate student in 1974.
