Cynthia S. Conger
Chief Financial Officer
As Chief Financial Officer, my primary role is to oversee the financial activities of the laboratory to maintain systems responsive to the obligations of sound financial stewardship and accountability.
In this role I work with the Director’s management team to formulate short- and long-range budgets that are integrated with program and resource planning activities across the laboratory. I’m responsible to the Director for maintaining efficient and effective financial controls to assure that financial activities are carried out in accordance with management’s intentions, and in accordance with the requirements of the Contract between FRA and the Department of Energy. I also serve as a member of the Director’s Assurance Council.
As head of the Finance Section I oversee the Accounting Department, the Budget Office, and the Grants and Contracts Office, to assure efficient, effective financial operations in support of the laboratory’s High Energy Physics program through a program of regular assessments and the integration of continuous improvement into everyday operations.
Prior to becoming CFO in 2006, I was Chief Accounting Officer, having worked in the Accounting Department since 1989. Prior to joining the laboratory, I was a Senior Manager for the public accounting firm of Ernst & Young in Chicago, providing attest services for Fortune 500, healthcare, small business, and non-for-profit clients, including Universities Research Association, Inc., the former Fermilab contractor.
