Chicago Brass Quintet - January 26, 2014 @ 2:30
One of the premiere ensembles of our time. -International Trumpet Guild Journal
The Chicago Brass Quintet is now celebrating its 50th Anniversary Season. The ensemble, formed in 1964 to promote the appreciate and enjoyment
of brass chamber music, rose to national prominence with the release of its first recording on Crystal Records, and its appearance as guest artists
for the International Trumpet Guild's Conference in NY. They have now performed across the United States, Canada, South America, and Asia. Highlights include performances at The Kennedy Center, Chautauqua Institute, and on WFMT, NPR and the CBC. CBQ commissions include works by Jan Bach, Cliff Colnot,
James Mattern, and others. The ensemble is Ross Beacraft and Matthew Lee (trumpets), Gregory Flint (French Horn), James Mattern (trombone), and
Dan Anderson (tuba).
Cavatina Duo- February 16, 2014 @ 2:30
Style, sympathy, and technical aplomb... it's doubtful that the Cavatina's sophisticated and artistic playing could be surpassed. There's more potential in the union of flute and guitar than is commonly realized, and this CD provides an incentive to investigate additional repertoire. Cavatina has inspired and commissioned new music of this type and I, for one, look forward to hearing it as soon as possible. Warmly recommended. -
The Cavatina Duo has captivated audiences with their electrifying performances in such major venues and festivals as Ravinia (Chicago), Da Camera Society (Los Angeles), Aix-en-Provence Summer Festival (France), Symphony Center Chicago, the National Concert Hall of Taipei (Taiwan), National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing, China, National Flute convention Gala Concert, USA, among many others. Radio and television stations in Europe and North America (WFMT, NPR) have broadcast the duo's performances. They have been the subjects of interviews in the international magazines such as Chamber Music America, TodoFlauta (Spain), FluteTalk(USA), Classical Guitar (UK), Guitarra Magazine (web), Soundboard(USA) and Flute, the BFS flute journal, (UK). They are the first guitar and flute duo to be featured on both the cover of Classical Guitar Magazine (UK) and the cover of FluteTalk (USA)
Composers from around the world have been inspired to write and arrange new works for the duo. They received the Encore Prize in 2003.
In February 2010 Cavatina duo premiered the Concerto for Flute Guitar and Orchestra dedicated to them by US born composer Alan Thomas with Camerata Serbica in Belgrade. Since then they have performed with orchestras in Europe, USA and Mexico; Chicago Sinfonietta, Traverse Symphony, Sarajevo Philharmonic and the Monterrey Orchestra. The Cavatina Duo has recorded five CD's for Spanish and North American labels; Opera Tres, Cedille, Bridge and Orobroy Records.
Rembrandt Chamber Players - March 9, 2014 @ 2:30
The Rembrandt Chamber Players have been a lively, gifted ensemble since their first concert 21 seasons ago. Formed by some of Chicago's leading musicians, they manage to find the sweet musical spot between the familiar and the unusual.- Chicago Classical Review
Founded in 1990, the Rembrandt Chamber Players is composed of seven of the finest musicians in the Chicago area, including members of the Lyric Opera
