“One of the wittiest and most insightful contemporary singer-songwriters, Christine Lavin, sets aside her customary focus on interpersonal relationships in the bewildering modern era to create a characteristic mixture of irreverent and genuine winter holiday songs.” – CD Baby

Do you ever want to hear those dogs barking “Jingle Bells” again? Neither does Christine Lavin – this “comic observer of human manners” (The New York Times) says she “just couldn’t find a good Christmas/ Kwanzaa/ Solstice /Chanukah /Ramadan/ Boxing Day album, so I had to make one.” So she rounded up seven other vocalists, assembled a sackful of characteristically humorous, offbeat, and occasionally moving seasonal songs, added a couple of original stories, and created this lighthearted a cappella alternative to the usual cloying Christmas-season songbook, a fresh delight for children and adults alike.

Christine Lavin has long been a folk music fav, as a singer/songwriter/career booster/radio host on xm satellite radio, and with The Four Bitchin’ Babes, a concept she created. She’s had 17 solo albums, been hailed as Singer/Songwriter of the Year from Backstage Magazine, won 5 ASCAP Composer Awards, NAIRD Folk Album of the Year, and the list goes on. For those who’ve seen her live, you know that there’s always going to be something fun and new. Who else would twirl flaming batons on stage, or get the entire audience to knit?

The Madrigal Singers and Gospel Choir of Aurora West High School and the Fermilab Singers join Christine Lavin on stage for a unique concert of holiday songs and stories. Many of the off-beat seasonal songs are from her critically acclaimed a cappella album, The Runaway Christmas Tree. Together Christine and the Mistletones bypass traditional fare for A Christmas/Kwanza/Solstice/Chanukah/Ramadan/Boxing Day Song!, The Tacobel Canon, Elves (a riddle within a song), and the express line version of Th 12 Dys f Chrstms. Blended in the fun mix are lovely hymns and odes to the season. Don’t miss this fun holiday event for the whole family.
